Dyslexia In Washington

Bye and bye, awareness of dyslexia is rising in Washington State, with legislation requiring early identification by 2021-22 and many independent schools and tutoring centers already open for business.

The state branch of the International Dyslexia Association has also produced a helpful resource guide for parents and professionals.

Washington Dyslexia Legislation (2018)

Washington state legislation defines dyslexia and requires all school districts must “…screen students in kindergarten through second grade” beginning in the 2021-22 school year. This is good news, but 2021-22 is not soon enough for parents of students currently in the system, so you may wish to encourage early implementation of the legislation where possible.
